The music of Bobo Violets is every bit the vibrant bouquet of colours and textures his name suggests. With his powerful soul vocals and a jazz-infused approach to composition, Bobo blends hip hop, R&B, folk, and electronic elements into a dreamlike production style that is uniquely his own.

 

Growing up on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Bobo was always singing, but he first set his hands to the piano at age five. He went on to learn drums, guitar, and bass while playing in multiple bands during his teenage years. At 22, he caught the travel bug and spent the next three years backpacking with a guitar, performing in countries such as Cambodia, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. In 2018, he studied music production at Douglas College in New Westminster, British Columbia and began fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a self-produced, self-recorded independent artist.

 

In 2019, Bobo Violets released his debut EP Matching Socks, a poignant and vulnerable musical narrative drawn from his life experiences. The EP’s first single, “Goodnight,” gained over 10,000 streams on Spotify within its first month. While it’s difficult to compare his sound to others, his captivating stage presence and elevated musicianship make Bobo Violets an artist to watch.
